Neolitic Art in Romania. Ediz. illustrata

8.000 years ago, thanks to the mastery of agriculture and animal breeding, mankind progressively drifted into settled communities. It is the beginning of the Neolitich era, also known as "The New Stone Age", wich will last almost 3.000 years. The territory of present day Romania saw the birth and development of some twenty different cultures: Vinca, Hamangia, Gumelnita, Cucuteni, Cernavoda..., wich extended well beyond the original sites, thus significantly contributing to the shaping of European identity. The technique and style of the many remains of these cultures, particularly the painted vases and statuettes, is so accomplished that they are in themselves absolute works of art. We believe the great Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncusi would agree... But Romanian Neolithic art was unknown to the general public, since it had never been shown in a large-scale exhibition until this private Swiss initiative, which received the full support of all authorities and institutions. More than a discovery, a revelation!
