“Una vita dedicata all’esecuzione del Messiah mi ha dato abbastanza coraggio per registrare questa musica straordinariamente famosa. Con la collaborazione dei migliori musicisti e solisti a livello mondiale, sono finalmente pronto a lasciare la mia personale interpretazione ai posteri”. Il direttore d’orchestra americano John Nelson, famoso soprattutto per le sue interpretazioni di Berlioz, ha diretto l’oratorio più celebre di Händel nella cattedrale di Coventry, nel cuore dell’Inghilterra, nel novembre 2022. Quella performance viene ora pubblicata come set di tre dischi, comprendente la versione audio (2CD) e video (1DVD). La versione della partitura scelta da Nelson riflette l’evoluzione del Messiah nel periodo che va dal 1741 (autografo originale) agli inizi degli anni Cinquanta del Settecento, quando prese forma una versione “standard” dell’oratorio. Inoltre, i CD offrono otto tracce bonus – versioni alternative di arie ormai familiari. Insieme a John Nelson troviamo l’orchestra e il coro storicamente informati The English Concert, il soprano Lucy Crowe, il controtenore Alex Potter, il tenore Michael Spyres e il basso Matthew Brook.
